Solidarity in Support of Iranian Truckers' Strike
A tough battle.
Iranian truckers are in a strong fight that began with a first wave of strikes
on May 22. Roads were blocked in 160 cities and 25 regions, but their demands
were not accepted by the Iranian government. A second and even more determined
strike has been announced since July 23.
The main demands
on which the struggle of the Iranian truckers is based are:
- Right to trade
union representation;
- Reduction of transport and fuel tariffs;
-
Modernization of the national fleet with reduction in the cost of trucks; - Tax
cuts;
- Increase in wages and pensions;
- Respect and increase of safety and
health standards;
- Fight against corruption, especially among police officers.
It is clear that
the struggle of Iranian truck drivers, as in other countries (such as the
recent great struggle of Brazilian truck drivers), is related to the needs of
the population, especially in countries where transportation of basic
necessities occurs. The cost of the tires and any additional costs (fuel,
taxes, corruption, etc.) are reflected in the price of retail sales.
CSP-Conlutas,
which has been in full solidarity and support for the historic strike of the
truck drivers in Brazil, and has always engaged in the construction of joint
and unitary struggles nationally and internationally, sends international
solidarity to the truck drivers of Iran.
